We're just getting started

Though we've faced our share of challenges, from technical growing hurdles to financial constraints, our vision remains clear: to expand our community mushroom farming model across each ward of Manchester and beyond, supporting people affected by food insecurity, creating opportunities for young people, and providing accessible education at a local level.

Our Story

FungALL sprouted from a simple idea: what if waste could feed us instead of filling landfill? and by transforming organic waste into mushrooms, can we tackle food insecurity, reduce carbon emissions, and bring communities together.

It all began when our founder, Norton, started growing mushrooms in his bedroom as part of a university project exploring how individuals might survive if food systems collapsed. His passion quickly grew, and soon after Tom and Nicole joined him. With support from friends, volunteers, tech innovators, and community leaders, that seed of an idea developed into Manchester’s first community mushroom farm dedicated to feeding local people. Today, our two farms are capable of producing 120kg of mushrooms each month for local residents.

Our beautifully circular model works like this: corporate partners sponsor us to collect their organic waste; we grow oyster mushrooms on it; and those mushrooms become nutritious meals, shared through local food security networks. From waste to plate, we’re proving that fungi can fuel community, resilience, and change.

About FungALL

Founded in 2023, FungALL has already made great strides in tackling food insecurity and creating opportunities for people across Manchester - by reimagining urban landscapes and transforming forgotten spaces into thriving community hubs where innovation meets impact. Our expanding network of urban farms and lab facilities brings new purpose to these overlooked areas, creating dynamic centres where local waste becomes nutritious food, and communities build sustainable futures together.

But FungALL’s vision stretches far beyond simply providing food, we’re passionate about supporting young people, helping them unleash their creativity, develop entrepreneurial skills, and take the lead on our sustainable, community-focused projects.

We’ve also just launched FungALL Futures working with Probation Services and Community Payback Teams to provide second chances for young people, helping them build meaningful community connections and creating pathways into careers in hospitality and green industries.
