We’ve recently celebrated a special milestone at Forever Fields Farm – our very first mushroom harvest! Manchester’s Finest came down to capture the moment, and while these mushrooms were destined for an unusual stage – heading to Co-op Live for Billie Eilish’s vegetarian-only gig – they also mark the beginning of something much bigger. From the start, our mission has been to improve access to nutrition… and mushrooms are one of the best ways to do this! (See below for our visit to Co-op Live.)

As our Young Game Changers project draws to a close, we want to say another huge thank you to the Co-operative Foundation, Young Game Changers, and our brilliant hosts at Brantingham Road Community Centre for helping us bring this little farm to life – as well as everyone who has lent a hand in building it too (Manchester Urban Diggers, Queer Roots Collective, and Tibetan Kitchen).
Over the coming months we’ll begin working with young people on community service, turning coffee and brewery grain into mushroom substrates, substrates into food, and food into nourishing meals that support communities affected by food insecurity.
More to follow soon – when waste is no longer wasted, the racks are full of mushrooms, and the fridges and tables of Manchester are loaded with delicious community food.
