Updated: May 5

We've just finished giving our pilot mushroom farm on the Merseybank a complete glow up! šŸ„ What began as a humble container has been transformed into a thriving hub for sustainable, community-grown food. The renovation journey has been a true community effort that perfectly embodies our values of collaboration, sustainability and local resilience.

Demolition Day: Community in Action

It all kicked off with a demolition day with the young people from YouthFed – they came down, got stuck in, and helped us pull the whole thing apart. There was plenty of energy, hammers and smashing, followed by some delicious mushroomy creations that showcased the delicious potential of locally-grown fungi.

Rebuilding for Resilience

From there, we rebuilt the farm from the ground up with sustainability and efficiency in mind:

  • Brand new roof/floor to protect our precious mushrooms

  • Cosy insulation to maintain optimal growing conditions

  • Fresh wall panels for a clean growing environment

  • Anti-condensation paint to manage moisture levels

  • Heat recovery system to keep the farm thriving through the colder months

This upgrade isn't just about aesthetics – it's about creating a more efficient, sustainable production system that can operate year-round, enhancing our capacity to provide nutritious food for our community while demonstrating circular economy principles in action.

Gratitude to Our Supporters

A massive thank you to TPE for believing in our vision and investing in this space. Your support has helped us turn a run-down container into a vibrant hub for sustainable, community-grown food.

Special Thanks to Sam

Thanks also to Sam for being our champion of renovation – Through rain, technical challenges, and tight deadlines, Sam's commitment to has been instrumental in bringing this project to life.

From Farm to Community Table

The best part? Our very first harvest from the revamped site has already gone out — supporting over 50 community meals in its first week. This immediate impact demonstrates the power of local food systems to address food security challenges while building community connections.
